Winning With Partners in 2018: Snapshots from Seattle
This trip is part of the DNC’s “Winning With Partners in 2018” tour. Winning With Partners in 2018 is a joint DNC and ASDC initiative that seeks to strengthen progressive infrastructure to both champion Democratic issues and values and build towards Democratic electoral victories in 2018. Since October, DNC Deputy Chair Keith Ellison has visited VA, TX, MN, PA, CT, MO, AL, CA, NC, VT, NV, WA and MI on this tour.
DNC Deputy Chair Keith Ellison is in the middle of a three week sprint for our Winning With Partners in 2018 program. After a successful weekend in Michigan, he headed over to Seattle, Renton, and Redmond, Washington for two days. In Washington, he trained at the Rise and Organize training academy program led by the Washington Democrats, met with members of the interfaith community, discussed 2018 elections with grassroots and progressive organizational leaders, and met with the youth organizers of the March for Our Lives-Seattle.
Here’s a few quick snapshots and a video from the Washington Democrats to show the power of organizing and how we win with partners.
Rise and Organize
Thanks to the leadership of the Washington Democrats under Chairwoman Tina Podlodowski and their grassroots organizing team, more than 700 activists attended two training academies over two days. Keith spoke at both academies — one in Seattle and one in Renton.
March for Our Lives- Seattle
Youth leaders are the future of our organizing and our voting. Keith met with young leaders who are helping lead the Seattle-area March for Our Lives movement.
Meeting with Local Leaders
A key component of the Winning With Partners program is ensuring communication and dialogue with allies all over the country, from leaders of emerging grassroots organizations like Indivisible and Swing Left, to leaders of established organizations like organized labor. Keith met with grassroots leaders who are working to flip the 8th Congressional District and win back the House.
Interfaith Roundtable at the Muslim Association of Puget Sound
Meeting with faith leaders has been a consistent component of the Winning With Partners tour. Keith has had the opportunity to continue meeting with faith leaders and spent part of Friday meeting with members of many faith communities in the greater Seattle area. Listening to the concerns of faith leaders is a key way to be reminded of the moral imperative to ensure that our wins at the ballot box turn into policy that improves the lives of people of all faiths, all cultures, and all economic backgrounds.
We’re headed to Wisconsin next for Winning With Partners in 2018. In the meantime, follow #DemsTour, @TomPerez, and @keithellison on Twitter and @TheDemocrats on Twitter and Instagram to keep up with how you can help elect Democrats in 2018.
