Republicans Have No Excuse Not To Fund CHIP
The Congressional Budget Office estimated that funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program would cost only $800 million — $7.5 billion less than previously estimated. Republicans have no excuse not to immediately reauthorize CHIP funding.
Here are some of the things Trump and Republicans think are a better use of taxpayer dollars:
· $18 billion for a border wall Mexico was supposed to pay for
· Nearly $1.5 trillion on the Trump Tax
· $83 billion in estate tax cuts
· Nearly $37 billion in tax cuts for people making over $1 million per year, in 2019 alone
· At least $30 million for Trump’s vacations to his Mar-a-Lago club
Republicans failed to reauthorize CHIP after they prioritized trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act and give tax cuts to Trump and his family.
Vox: “Perhaps more fundamentally, the Republican-led Congress instead prioritized a last-minute run at Obamacare repeal and a major tax overhaul, while leaving the CHIP funding unresolved for more than three months. They are running out of time to fix it.”
Republicans have put millions of children and pregnant women at risk of losing their health insurance, and now states could run out of money sooner than previously predicted.
Business Insider: “Over 2 million children and pregnant women are on the brink of losing health insurance”
Washington Post Editorial: “Congress’s failure to re-up CHIP funding shows its striking ineptitude”
NPR: “The $2.85 billion was supposed to fund states’ CHIP programs through March 31. But some states will start running out of money after Jan. 19, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.”
