Our Party Is Only As Strong As Our Supporters

DNC Chair Tom Perez on the crucial investments the Democratic Party has made to build a strong DNC for the Democratic nominee.

In order to win the presidency next year, Democrats need to keep Donald Trump’s poll numbers as low as possible. If his approval ratings remain at historically low levels, we’ve got a good shot at taking back the White House and seats across the country. Here’s a quick look at where his approval numbers have been recently:

You can see what we’re up against. The reality we face is that this race will be closer than any of us are hoping for, and we can’t take anything for granted. Trump’s campaign already has a nearly $130 million war chest, and they’ve been actively campaigning since the day he took office. That’s why the DNC launched our One-Term President Fund last month — a fund specifically devoted to defeating Trump and Republicans next year by electing a Democrat to the White House and winning seats nationwide.

Grassroots contributions to the One-Term President Fund are already being put to work funding some of the most exciting and groundbreaking projects the Democratic Party has ever undertaken. Since you are an important member of our party, I hope you’ll give me a moment to explain more about what exactly the DNC is doing to win in the months ahead.

ORGANIZING CORPS 2020

Organizing Corps 2020 will train the next generation of young community organizers to work on the 2020 election cycle, starting this summer. Through Organizing Corps 2020, the Democratic Party will recruit and train homegrown organizers in key battleground states we lost in 2016. Our eventual nominee will rely on this program to build a world-class field team to organize and win in 2020, so this program couldn’t be more important to the future of our country and our party.

TECH AND DATA IMPROVEMENTS

Improving Democratic tech and data has been one of the DNC’s top priorities since 2017, which is why our party has brought in top tech talent, invested heavily in cybersecurity, and begun rebuilding our data infrastructure to give all our presidential candidates best-in-class tools. Just last month, the DNC announced a landmark agreement with state parties to participate in a new Democratic Data Exchange. The exchange will improve access to voter data across the progressive ecosystem so that we can unify our efforts and employ smart strategies to win in every ZIP code.

STATE-OF-THE-ART VOTER PROTECTION PROGRAMS

Democrats’ ability to fight for every single vote will be mission-critical to winning the presidency and seats nationwide next year. If folks can’t vote, Democrats can’t win. That’s why the DNC is staffing up by hiring experienced voter protection lawyers and will keep our full-time voter protection hotline running for the 2020 cycle.

Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read more about what the DNC is doing to defeat Trump and the GOP next year. I believe wholeheartedly that if this incredible grassroots team comes together right now to build the strong party infrastructure it’ll take to lift our eventual Democratic nominee to victory, we can win this thing. But that is our only option. We cannot wait until 2020 to invest in the organizing, tech, data, and staff required to defeat Trump and the GOP.
